Alajuelense defender Alexis Gamboa expressed mixed feelings after his team drew 2-2 against Saprissa at the Ricardo Saprissa Stadium. The result puts Alajuelense in a strong position as they aim for their 31st league title.
Gamboa acknowledged the team’s solid performance but felt they could have secured more from the match. “I thank God for the good work of the whole team. We wanted the victory and we were ahead on the scoreboard, but we couldn’t hold it. Now we hope to finish well at home and give joy to our fans, who have been waiting for it so much,” said Gamboa after the game.
Alajuelense took the lead with goals from Kenyel Michel and Alejandro Bran, but Saprissa responded, leveling the score through Fidel Escobar.
Looking ahead to the second leg, scheduled for Saturday at 7 p.m. at Alejandro Morera Soto Stadium, Gamboa emphasized confidence within the squad despite not maintaining their advantage in this first match. “We hope to finish well at home because we didn’t take advantage of our lead. The team has a lot of confidence and we are doing things well. The draw is not a bad result. I thank God for the result,” he stated.
Gamboa also reflected on his personal form this season and hopes to help secure a championship for Alajuelense supporters. “I think the team has a lot of confidence. We came out very motivated and hope to play well at home, stay on track, and achieve our objectives, which is what all our fans want this season,” Gamboa added.
