Ana Virginia Calzada, presidential candidate for the Centro Democrático y Social party, has announced that she will file a legal complaint against ruling party legislator Pilar Cisneros. The specific reasons for the complaint were not detailed by Calzada.
In a video posted to her social media accounts, Calzada stated: “Costa Ricans, we must stop continuity with our votes and in the courts. Pilar, you and your group will spend years paying for the harm you have done to this country and to honorable people whom you have hurt with your lies. That is why, Pilar, consider yourself sued. If I am not afraid of drug trafficking and organized crime, I am much less afraid of you, Rodrigo, and your apprentice, Laura Fernández.”
This development follows remarks made on January 5 by Cisneros, who accused Calzada of “accepting a pension for which she never contributed enough and does not even feel remorse about it.” Cisneros’ criticism came after Calzada released a video suggesting that the current political climate is favorable to drug trafficking linked to chavismo.
Calzada’s video depicts a fictional setting called “narco-hell,” featuring references to President Rodrigo Chaves, José Miguel Villalobos (Pueblo Soberano party congressional candidate), legislator Pilar Cisneros, and Laura Fernández (presidential candidate for Pueblo Soberano).
At the end of her video message, Calzada says: “To vote again for chavismo is to sell your soul to the Devil.”
Cisneros responded yesterday that she would reply to the former magistrate “when she gets out of the margin of error.” In response, Calzada said that the margin of error is not known in polls but rather at the ballot box.
