Ariel Robles, presidential candidate for the Frente Amplio (FA), expressed doubts about the credibility of a complaint filed against communicator and activist Stella Chinchilla. The complaint alleges an attempted homicide against President Rodrigo Chaves.
Robles described the actions taken by the Dirección de Inteligencia y Seguridad Nacional (DIS) as baseless. “This is another invention, like Laura’s microphone or Nogui’s TikTok. They do it to shift attention back to the president after his candidate’s blunder this week,” said Robles.
He referred first to an incident in October 2025 when Laura Fernández, candidate of Partido Pueblo Soberano (PPSO), reported finding a microphone of unknown origin in her private office. He also mentioned a case involving businessman Leonel Baruch, who was accused by the Ministry of Finance—then led by Nogui Acosta—of tax evasion based on a TikTok video. Prosecutors later requested that charges be dropped against Baruch.
Robles asserted that the accusations against Chinchilla Mora are unfounded. “She is a social communicator, a fighter who cares for her children, organizes collections to save animals, and covers social movements. She has no qualities indicating she could do what she is accused of,” he stated.
He also sent support to Chinchilla: “Today I have been disconnected from social networks. To Stella and her family, my solidarity in light of this strange event she has been victimized by today.”
Robles called on authorities to act responsibly during the ongoing security crisis: “To DIS: amid this crisis, be responsible. Investigate drug traffickers and do not get involved in distractions or cases used for political purposes.”
He expressed confidence that judicial processes would clarify the situation.
Chinchilla was accused of allegedly plotting against President Chaves’s life, leading the Unidad Especial Intervención (UEI) to request her immediate arrest. Authorities were reportedly alerted about WhatsApp conversations suggesting Chinchilla ordered and paid a hitman to attack the president. Chinchilla has denied these allegations and stated she does not know any details included in the complaint.
