The Ministry of Public Works and Transport announced on Apr. 17 that starting Monday, April 20, the asphalt surface of the bridge over the Sucio River on National Route 32 will be removed as part of ongoing maintenance work. The intervention is expected to last five days.

The removal will take place from 8:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., coinciding with scheduled closures for other marking works along the route. Authorities say this approach aims to optimize intervention times and reduce impacts on traffic flow.

Officials from MOPT-CONAVI urged drivers using this route to exercise caution due to uneven surfaces resulting from the asphalt removal. “Respect the speed limit established in the work zone, which is 30 kilometers per hour, and follow instructions from personnel onsite,” officials said in a statement. They added that these measures are intended “to minimize impacts, strengthen road safety, and contribute to sustainable infrastructure improvements for the benefit of the population.”

Project details include rehabilitation of piers, reinforcement of slabs, restoration of embankments, maintenance of supports, replacement of asphalt layers, improvement of railings and joints, among other complementary elements. According to officials, these efforts aim to improve structural conditions and extend the useful life of the bridge while enhancing both road safety and pedestrian mobility in the area.

Funding for this project amounts to $2,406,486.08 provided by Banco Centroamericano de Integración Económica (BCIE). The works are part of PROERI—the Emergency Program for Comprehensive and Resilient Infrastructure Reconstruction—which seeks to improve safety and quality of life for thousands.
