Authorities continued on March 31 to search for a 23-year-old man who disappeared in the sea near Hotel Fiesta, located in Barranca, Puntarenas. Emergency officials said that another person managed to get out of the water by himself.

The incident has drawn attention to the dangers present along this stretch of coastline and the challenges faced by rescue teams during adverse conditions. The safety of swimmers and beachgoers remains a concern as authorities work against difficult circumstances.

The Fire Department said it is maintaining search efforts but reported that strong waves have made it impossible to carry out a safe operation. “El Cuerpo de Bomberos explicĂł que, si bien continĂşa con las labores, las condiciones de oleaje del lugar han imposibilitado realizar un operativo seguro,” according to emergency services.

The National Coast Guard Service has joined the search operation alongside firefighters as they attempt to locate the missing individual.

Rescue teams are expected to continue their efforts as weather and ocean conditions allow.
