Banco Central de Costa Rica announces new coin release and marks World Water Day

The Banco Central de Costa Rica (BCCR) announced several initiatives and commemorations in a series of tweets published between March 20 and March 22, 2026. The tweets highlighted the release of a new collectible coin, educational activities for students, and efforts to raise awareness about water conservation.

On March 20, BCCR stated: “Desde el miércoles 25 de marzo se venderá la quinta moneda coleccionable de ₡25 de la serie “Sitios Emblemáticos de Nuestras Provincias”, alusiva a la Basílica de Nuestra Señora de los Ángeles, Cartago. Precio: ₡9.050. Límite: 2 por persona.

Later that day, on March 20, BCCR reported on its financial education outreach as part of Global Money Week 2026: “Estudiantes de los colegios técnicos profesionales de Santa Eulalia (Atenas), Bolívar (Grecia), INVU Las Cañas, Carrizal, Roberto Evans (Limón), Pavas (San José) y San Carlos (Alajuela) participaron en actividades de educación financiera, en el marco de la #GlobalMoneyWeek2026 https://t.co/Biw7gg5Kaw”. The tweet noted that students from various technical high schools across Costa Rica took part in these activities aimed at improving financial literacy.

On March 22, marking World Water Day, BCCR posted: “En el Banco Central de Costa Rica conmemoramos el Día Mundial del Agua, recordando que cada gota cuenta.

A través de la Cuenta de Agua, generamos información clave para comprender, gestionar y proteger mejor este recurso vital. https://t.co/vPWB3cMTxt“. The bank emphasized its role in producing data through its Water Account initiative to better understand and manage water resources.

The Banco Central de Costa Rica serves as the nation’s central monetary authority and regularly undertakes initiatives to promote public awareness on topics such as currency history and environmental stewardship. Its collectible coin series highlights important cultural sites across different provinces of Costa Rica.
