Banco de Costa Rica announced on April 29 that the San José BCR Marathon 2026 will take place on Sunday, June 7, starting at 5:00 a.m. The event will feature distances of 5K, 10K, 21K, and 42K in categories including General, Master, Tricycle, and Accessibility. Spanish runner and influencer Sergio Turull, known as Pitufollow, will attend the marathon as a special guest.
The marathon is considered one of the most important sporting events of the year in San José. Banco de Costa Rica said it is proud to sponsor the event and bring an internationally recognized figure to share experiences with local runners. “For Banco de Costa Rica it is a source of pride to be the official sponsor of the San José BCR Marathon 2026. This initiative unites us through effort, discipline and health; as a reflection of these attitudes we are proud to bring a world-class marathon reference so he can share with runners and experience running in the country of ‘Pura Vida’,” said Natalia Suárez, Public Relations Manager at Banco de Costa Rica.
Runners will have opportunities to interact with Pitufollow during his visit. From April 15 until May 15 participants who acquire Banco de Costa Rica’s payment wristband can enter into a drawing for one of one hundred exclusive spots at an event where Turull will share stories and advice about running as a lifestyle. Winners may ask questions and take photos with him. In addition to race day activities on June 7th, there will be an open Social Run on Saturday June 6th from 6:00 a.m. at Parque Metropolitano La Sabana where attendees can meet Turull until around eight o’clock.
Registration for all race distances is available online at https://maratondesanjose.com/. Fees range from $38 for the shortest distance up to $65 for the full marathon. The routes vary by distance and more information is provided on the official website.
An Expo Maratón featuring well-known brands and entrepreneurs offering products takes place Friday June 5th (8:00 a.m.–8:00 p.m.) and Saturday June 6th (8:00 a.m.–5:00 p.m.) at Estadio Nacional facilities.
