Banco de Costa Rica announced on March 4 a range of new housing credit products and special conditions for attendees of Expoconstrucción 2026, which is being held at the Centro de Eventos Pedregal in Belén from March 4 to March 8.

The announcement is significant for individuals looking to buy, remodel, or build their homes, as it introduces financing options with favorable terms. The bank is offering up to 95% financing—of which 5% can be used for household goods—a fixed interest rate for up to eight years, and repayment periods of up to 30 years. Additionally, the first 600 applicants will not have to pay appraisal fees or legal costs. Banco de Costa Rica will also purchase outstanding balances from previous mortgage loans.

The bank’s portfolio includes three main products: Mi Casa BCR, Vivienda Impulso Sostenible, and Vivienda Accesible. Mi Casa BCR allows clients to buy a house or lot, build on owned land, repair or expand an existing home, or refinance debts related to housing. Financing amounts start at one million colones or two thousand dollars and can go higher depending on payment capacity and collateral. Clients may choose among several types of guarantees including trust agreements and mortgages.

Vivienda Accesible targets middle-income individuals within limits set by the Banco Hipotecario de la Vivienda (BANHVI). It offers two modalities: with or without a government housing grant (bono). The maximum property value eligible under this program is ¢76,500,000 as published by BANHVI in February. Financing terms depend on whether the applicant receives a bono but can cover up to 100% of the property value when combined with the grant.

Vivienda Impulso Sostenible is designed for those interested in sustainable construction or remodeling projects. This product supports investments in eco-friendly technologies such as solar panels and water-saving systems. It offers both colones- and dollar-denominated loans with fixed rates for up to five years before switching to variable rates.

Banco de Costa Rica encourages visitors to attend its stand at Expoconstrucción for personalized advice from expert staff who can tailor solutions based on individual needs. For those unable to attend the event in person, applications can also be made through BCR Directo online services.
