Banco de Costa Rica (BCR) announced on March 6 that people planning to travel during the upcoming Semana Santa holiday should check the validity of their passports and driver’s licenses. The bank is encouraging travelers to ensure their documents are up to date before leaving the country or traveling domestically.

The announcement matters as many people travel during Semana Santa, increasing demand for document renewals. BCR aims to help citizens avoid last-minute issues by providing accessible services across its network.

According to BCR, those needing to renew or replace damaged passports or licenses can do so at any of the 118 Puntos País locations. Appointments for these services are free and can be scheduled through digital channels such as www.bancobcr.com, the BCR Móvil app, or by calling 800-BCRCITA (800-227-2482). For minors, appointments must be made using the identification number of a parent listed on the child’s identity document.

At Puntos País, all necessary data is collected for document issuance. The Dirección General de Migración y Extranjería issues passports, which are then sent via Correos de Costa Rica. The delivery time for passports is specified on a receipt given at the appointment, and tracking is available online. Driver’s licenses are issued immediately at these locations.

Requirements and fees for each service can be found on the Punto País Servicios al Estado section of www.bancobcr.com. Locations and operating hours are also available online. BCR reminds customers that scheduling an appointment is free and can be done independently through its website or by phone. When booking an appointment, only an identification number is required; no PINs or card numbers will be requested.

As Semana Santa approaches, BCR continues to provide convenient options for renewing essential travel documents throughout Costa Rica.
