Banco Promerica Costa Rica has received the Gold award from the Programa Líderes en Electrificación de la Economía (PLEE) for the second consecutive year, recognizing its ongoing strategy to electrify and decarbonize its operations.
The bank has implemented a range of initiatives aimed at reducing its environmental impact. All central offices, branches, and warehouses are now certified under Carbono Neutralidad Plus. Additionally, Banco Promerica has installed photovoltaic systems at 18 sites and set up 20 charging stations for electric vehicles. The company has also replaced part of its vehicle fleet with electric cars and motorcycles, while six branches have achieved LEED certification.
“These efforts are not isolated decisions. They are part of the ‘Lead by Example’ pillar of our sustainability strategy, where electrification, energy efficiency, and renewable generation are key elements both in our operations and in the solutions we offer clients,” said a spokesperson for Banco Promerica Costa Rica.
The organization highlighted that measuring energy consumption is critical to driving progress. “One of the biggest lessons learned has been the importance of measurement: we internally monitor electricity and fuel consumption to make data-driven decisions, and we have developed indicators that allow us to identify areas for improvement, adjust processes, and take actions with real impact.”
Banco Promerica noted that these changes have required investments without immediate returns, replacement of still-functioning but outdated equipment, and cultural shifts within the institution. However, these efforts have been sustained due to strong leadership commitment. “These efforts are maintained because they come from committed leadership that has prioritized this path, allocated budget, and coordinated concrete actions.”
According to Banco Promerica Costa Rica, being recognized by PLEE is not just validation but also an opportunity to join a community focused on sustainable economic transformation. “The recognition from PLEE not only validates this path; it also connects us with a community of companies rethinking their role in the economy from a more sustainable logic. For us, leading in electrification is not a medal: it is a responsibility we assume through action.”
