BancoPopularCR warns customers of phishing attempts via fraudulent text messages

Banco Popular y de Desarrollo Comunal (BancoPopularCR) has issued warnings and guidance to its customers regarding fraudulent text messages targeting their personal information, according to a series of posts made on March 19 and 20, 2026.

On March 19, BancoPopularCR reminded clients about its official digital channels: “Recuerde que puede gestionar sus productos y consultar información en nuestro sitio web: https://t.co/Cm9WF0Faby”.

Later, on March 20, the bank alerted followers to ongoing phishing attempts. In a public advisory, it stated: ” Aviso importante Se han detectado mensajes de texto fraudulentos que intentan engañar a nuestros clientes con supuestos vencimientos de puntos en sus tarjetas. Recuerde: estos mensajes son falsos y buscan obtener su información personal. https://t.co/XPJgmUcIHK”.

BancoPopularCR also offered specific recommendations for safeguarding data: “Proteja sus datos: • No ingrese a enlaces sospechosos • No comparta información confidencial • Elimine este tipo de mensajes El Banco Popular nunca le solicitará información sensible por SMS, enlaces o medios no oficiales.”
