Banco de Costa Rica (BCR) and FONATEL have completed the main phase of the CENCINAI Project, which aimed to provide technological equipment to child care centers across Costa Rica. According to BCR, a total of 6,046 devices were delivered to 534 CEN-CINAI locations nationwide.

The project was carried out under the Program 3 – Publicly Equipped Centers of FONATEL and aligns with Goal 18 of the National Telecommunications Development Plan (PNDT 2022–2027), focusing on strengthening technological resources in child care facilities.

The distributed equipment included laptops for teachers, administrative management, and school support, as well as tablets, multifunction printers, interactive screens, and charging cabinets. These tools are intended to help centers make better use of available connectivity services and reduce the digital divide.

Centers in all seven provinces and nine planning regions received the equipment: Central South, Huetar North, Chorotega, Huetar Caribbean, Brunca, Central North, Pacific Central, Central West, and Central East.

The implementation started in February 2025 and concluded in December of that year. The process involved logistics preparation, importation procedures with tax exemptions, technical verification of equipment, and national distribution according to contractual agreements.

“The project was executed under the highest standards of management, control and transparency established in the FONATEL Trust managed by BCR,” said a statement from BCR. “This reaffirms the institution’s ability to efficiently manage strategic resources for the country.”

Going forward, BCR will continue its role overseeing technical follow-up during the warranty period to ensure proper operation of the equipment and fulfillment of contractual obligations. In addition to this project for CENCINAI centers, BCR plans ongoing collaboration with FONATEL on new initiatives that will benefit CONAPDIS (National Council for Persons with Disabilities), CENAREC (National Center for Educational Resources), and Smart Community Centers (CECI) by providing additional technology resources.
