Costa Rica’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs has recently highlighted its ongoing commitment to international protection and diplomatic engagement through a series of posts on its official social media account.
On April 16, 2026, the Ministry stated: ” reafirma su compromiso con la protección internacional: más de 240.000 solicitantes de asilo y 23.000 personas refugiadas.” The post emphasizes Costa Rica’s role in providing asylum and refuge to hundreds of thousands of individuals.
The following day, April 17, the Ministry announced the participation of Foreign Minister Arnoldo André in an upcoming international conference: “El ministro de Relaciones Exteriores @arnoldoandre participará en la 5ª Conferencia Diplomática de Antalya @AntalyaDF que se celebrará del 17 al 19 de abril en esa ciudad de Türkiye”. This message was further elaborated in a subsequent post on the same date: “Este importante evento le permitirá al canciller André compartir la perspectiva de Costa Rica sobre la situación regional y global, así como buscar puntos de encuentro con socios extrarregionalas.”
Costa Rica has historically maintained a reputation for political stability and respect for human rights, factors that have contributed to its role as a destination for refugees and asylum seekers in Central America. The country also actively participates in international forums to address regional challenges and foster cooperation with both neighboring and non-regional partners.
