Carolina Jaikel and Bryan Ruiz released a video on Instagram on April 27 asking the public to help a close friend named Beto, who is fighting stage 4 gastric cancer with metastasis to the liver. In the video, Jaikel explained that while Beto has received good care from Social Security services, he now needs a treatment that cannot be provided quickly enough through those channels.
Jaikel said she understands firsthand the importance of community support during illness. She was diagnosed with lung cancer with bone metastasis and has relied on others’ generosity throughout her own journey. “Today we come to ask you for help in whatever way you can give it, for Beto. He is someone this family loves very much. He is fighting stage 4 gastric cancer with liver metastasis,” Jaikel said in the video.
She described Beto as an extraordinary person who wants to keep living and facing his disease head-on. “He had been treated at Social Security, and although he has received very good care, now he needs a treatment that takes some time there before it can be provided—and that’s something Beto doesn’t have right now,” she added.
Jaikel also mentioned she would share bank account details for anyone willing to contribute financially or via Sinpe móvil, emphasizing that sharing their message or offering prayers would also be valuable forms of support: “And if you can’t help financially, just sharing is a great help for him… We come with our hearts in our hands asking you all to help him however you can.” Ruiz echoed these sentiments: “But if someone can’t contribute financially, sharing and prayers are always fundamental… I hope we can all help Beto continue his fight.”
Earlier this month, after her first PET scan showed no signs of active cancer in her body—a sign of remission—Jaikel expressed gratitude on Instagram: “The day of my first PET scan—clean. The first of many, God willing… Thanks for so many prayers and so much love.” She continues maintenance chemotherapy as part of her ongoing recovery.
In conclusion, Jaikel appealed once more: “Beto has been my brother in this process—unconditional, positive… From wherever each person can give from their heart so that Beto can get the treatments he urgently needs—I thank you from my heart and may God bless you.”
