Cartaginés secured a 2-0 victory over Herediano in a match marked by two own goals. The first goal came in the 11th minute when a cross from Claudio Montero was deflected into the net by Herediano defender Kymar McLean. In the second half, at minute 49, José Mora reached the end line and took a shot; goalkeeper Dany Carvajal attempted to block it, but the rebound struck Darril Araya’s ankle and resulted in another own goal.

Following the match, Club Sport Herediano coach Hernán Medford commented on the situation: “Son cosas del fútbol y que no puede culpar a nadie, pues ningún jugador desea anotar en su propio arco.”

The result gave Cartaginés three points as both teams continue their campaigns in Costa Rica’s top football division.
