The National Directorate of CEN-CINAI has renewed its vehicle fleet, addressing a delay that had persisted since 2008. On Wednesday, the institution delivered 35 new 4×4 pickup trucks and one truck, funded by an investment of ₡830.7 million from the Social Development and Family Allowances Fund (FODESAF). The aim is to improve both internal operations at facilities and outreach work in communities across Costa Rica.

With each local office now set to have its own vehicle, food distribution in various regions will be more efficient. The new vehicles will also support home visits, educational sessions for parents and guardians, anthropometric measurements, and other key activities for comprehensive care of beneficiaries.

The 4×4 pickups are expected to help staff reach rural and hard-to-access areas, ensuring services extend to communities most in need. All vehicles are clearly marked for official use. The truck acquired will play a central role in transporting equipment, supplies, and materials needed for daily operations.

CEN-CINAI currently operates 647 centers nationwide, providing preventive nutrition services to over 181,000 people through on-site and outreach strategies. Additionally, the organization serves more than 30,000 adolescent mothers as well as pregnant or breastfeeding women.

This latest purchase follows the acquisition of ten vehicles last year as part of an ongoing strategy to modernize the fleet and expand coverage. Institutional budget increases have supported these efforts: from ₡62 billion in 2023 to over ₡88 billion in 2025—an increase of 82%. Projections indicate investment could approach ₡140 billion by 2026 to further strengthen services for children and families throughout the country.
