Claudia Dobles, presidential candidate for the Citizens’ Agenda Coalition (CAC), has raised concerns about how the government has handled an alleged threat against President Rodrigo Chaves.
“It is striking that, in the face of such a serious threat as an attempted assassination against a president, the first step is to turn to media spectacle and only afterward to make a formal complaint,” said Dobles.
She further stated, “Those familiar with security know that protocols must be followed. This recalls the microphone episode: clumsiness and showmanship in handling the situation,” referencing a previous incident involving Laura Fernández, a candidate from the Chavista party.
The former first lady also criticized what she described as a lack of seriousness by the government in matters of security. “With good reason today we face a lack of strategy in security and management marked by absolute incompetence,” Dobles said.
Dobles emphasized that every threat against the president should be treated with seriousness. She added, “We must get to the bottom of this matter, beyond two screenshots of WhatsApp conversations.”
In relation to this case, activist and communicator Stella Chinchilla has been accused of allegedly plotting against President Chaves’s life. The Special Intervention Unit (UEI) requested her immediate detention after reportedly being alerted to WhatsApp conversations where Chinchilla was said to have ordered and paid someone to attack the president.
Chinchilla has denied all allegations and stated she does not recognize any details mentioned in the complaint.
