The Ministry of Public Works and Transport announced on April 27 that construction will begin Tuesday, April 28, on two new bridges over the Grande de Orosi river in the localities of Tapantí and Palomo, Paraíso de Cartago.
The project aims to replace existing single-lane structures with new two-lane bridges. The ministry said initial work will include moving equipment, setting up temporary signage, installing a camp, and starting earthworks.
According to the announcement, construction activities are scheduled from 6:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., with no expected impact on traffic for most of the work period. Vehicles will continue using the current bridges during construction. If any traffic regulation becomes necessary, users will be notified in advance so they can plan accordingly.
Each bridge will feature pedestrian sidewalks and improved access points. The ministry estimates that more than 76,000 residents in the area—as well as general road users—will benefit from these upgrades by the end of this year.
The estimated investment is $4,192,500.13 for the Tapantí bridge and $4,908,392.87 for Palomo’s bridge. These projects are part of the Emergency Program for Comprehensive and Resilient Infrastructure Reconstruction (PROERI).
The broader implications include improved safety and accessibility for both pedestrians and drivers in Paraíso de Cartago once construction is completed.
