Construction is expected to begin by the end of March on two new bridges over the Grande de Orosi River in Paraíso de Cartago. The bridges will be located in the communities of Tapantí and Palomo. Both structures will be completely rebuilt and expanded from one lane to two lanes, and will include pedestrian sidewalks and improved access points.
According to the project’s Executive Unit at the National Road Council (CONAVI), technical adjustments are being made based on reviews of studies and preliminary designs. The final designs for both bridges are expected to be ready in the coming weeks, which will allow construction to start at the end of next month.
“The reconstruction and expansion of both structures is estimated to benefit more than 76,000 people who live in the area, as well as users in general,” stated officials involved with the project.
The estimated investment is $4,192,500.13 for the Tapantí bridge and $4,908,392.87 for the bridge in Palomo.
These projects are part of the Emergency Program for Comprehensive and Resilient Infrastructure Reconstruction (PROERI), which plans to start work on 50 projects—including 15 road interventions and 35 bridges—during the first quarter of this year.
