CoopeTarrazú took part in the tenth anniversary celebration of Casas de la Alegría, a program that has provided care, education, and safe spaces for thousands of children in Costa Rica during the coffee harvest season.

As part of the event, CoopeTarrazú received the “Protectors of Childhood” award from REDCUDI. The recognition honors families, associated producers, educators, communities, and institutions involved in supporting children’s welfare through this initiative.

During the ceremony, representatives from organizations linked to the project reflected on past challenges faced by coffee-growing communities. More than ten years ago, children of pickers and immigrants often accompanied their parents to farms, where they were exposed to child labor, malnutrition, and lack of protection.

Currently, CoopeTarrazú manages more Casas de la Alegría centers than any other institution nationwide. The cooperative operates 18 care centers in the Los Santos region, serving 2,283 children.

“It is an honor to receive this recognition, which is a reminder of the value each child who passes through our Casas de la Alegría holds. I want to thank all the committed people who make this project possible,” said Grettel Rojas, administrator of Casas de la Alegría at CoopeTarrazú.

The award encourages CoopeTarrazú to continue its work with dedication and cooperation in support of children’s well-being.
