The National Road Council (CONAVI) has received approval from the Office of the Comptroller General for multi-year road maintenance contracts covering 14 out of 22 zones in Costa Rica. This decision secures road conservation efforts for the next four years.

Immediate action will be taken to address requirements requested by the Comptroller’s Office regarding eight contracts that were not endorsed, following appeals made by construction companies involved.

Minister of Public Works and Transport, Efraím Zeledón, stated that new contracts will be operational by July in areas including Alajuela, Atenas, Ciudad Quesada, Grecia, Guápiles, Heredia, La Fortuna, Limón, Los Chiles, Naranjo, Pérez Zeledón, Poás, Puriscal, Quepos, San José, San Mateo, San Ramón, Sarchí and Río Claro.

Zeledón emphasized respect for the Comptroller’s decision and said that files for non-approved bids would be reviewed.

“CONAVI made the award based on the lowest price offered and compliance with bidding requirements; however, respecting the Comptroller’s opinion in disqualifying the lowest offer means we will proceed to award it to the next lowest bidder,” he concluded.
