The Ministry of Finance of Costa Rica announced that its Fiscal Control Police raided a warehouse complex in Coyol, Alajuela, over alleged untaxed alcohol and cigarettes and violations of health and trade regulations.
According to the Ministry of Finance, the Fiscal Control Police (PCF) conducted several coordinated raids on September 3 at the warehouse complex after receiving reports about the storage of untaxed alcoholic beverages and cigarettes. The operation also targeted violations of health regulations for their consumption and sale, as well as infractions of the Golfito Free Trade Zone law. During the operation, authorities seized 1,321,200 cigarettes, 45,247 units of liquor, two vehicles, and several mobile phones for investigation.
The raids were executed under the direction of the fiscal criminal court and the Public Ministry. Operational and logistical support was provided by the Alajuela Municipal Police and the Ministry of Public Security. The Ministry has made available a reporting platform on its website called “Denuncie Ya” for citizens to report any irregularities affecting public finances. Authorities emphasized that these actions are part of ongoing efforts to enforce tax compliance, protect public health, and uphold national regulations on commerce and trade.
“The Ministry of Finance remains committed to fighting smuggling and tax evasion, as well as protecting public health,” said Melissa RodrĂguez Araya, deputy director of the PCF. “We will continue strengthening controls and operational actions in different parts of the country to safeguard the population and ensure compliance with regulations.”
