Costa Rica took part in the Progress Review of the Global Refugee Forum 2025, held from December 15 to 17 in Geneva, Switzerland.
The Costa Rican delegation participated in several panels and events during the meeting. These included a panel on “Solid and sustainable asylum systems: addressing challenges and enabling protection and solutions,” a regional event titled “Implementation of the Global Compact on Refugees in Latin America and the Caribbean: from commitments to action,” and a strategic dialogue about the added value of Support Platforms based on experiences from the Comprehensive Regional Framework for Protection and Solutions (MIRPS).
In addition, under Costa Rica’s Pro Tempore Presidency of the Platform on Disaster Displacement (PDD), a side event was organized to mark ten years since the Nansen Initiative Protection Agenda. The event focused on legal, regulatory, and policy advances for people displaced across borders due to disasters and climate change.
During these sessions, Ambassador Christian Guillerment emphasized: “the importance of cooperation and dialogue as an indispensable framework for promoting coordinated, predictable, and sustainable responses in international protection matters, especially in a context of changing patterns of human mobility.”
