The Costa Rican Table Tennis Federation (Fecoteme) has confirmed that the country’s senior women’s team will participate in the World Team Table Tennis Championships, scheduled to take place in London, England. The event is organized by the International Table Tennis Federation (ITTF) and marks the 100th anniversary of the first world championship for the sport.
The ITTF officially invited Costa Rica’s senior women’s team to compete in the tournament, which will run from April 28 to May 11, 2026. The national team will consist of Lucía Zavaleta Ovares, Amanda Jiménez Moraga, and Victoria Castro Salas.
According to a press release from Fecoteme, this news was welcomed by the female table tennis community in Costa Rica. The three selected athletes are described as part of a competitive generation that has shown dedication and commitment.
Ricardo Castro, president of Fecoteme, stated: “We are very happy to receive such important news for table tennis in Costa Rica and Central America, which confirms the work and effort of coaches and parents.” He added that the invitation recognizes both the federation’s efforts and its international performances. Castro believes this shows they are on the right path toward growth and greater competitiveness.
The 2026 edition is significant as it commemorates a century since table tennis held its first world championship in 1926. The tournament will feature 64 men’s teams and 64 women’s teams competing over 13 days at two venues in London.
