The Ministry of Health in Costa Rica has issued a warning regarding the sale and advertising of the product FITFORMA. According to authorities, this product is being promoted on various websites as a natural supplement for weight loss, but it does not have a valid health registration in Costa Rica.
Officials state that FITFORMA is advertised with claims such as “burning fat,” losing up to 10 kilograms in a month, and having slimming and toning effects. The product also claims to act on mechanisms related to GLP-1. The Ministry emphasized that none of these statements are supported by reliable scientific evidence. Additionally, the advertisements use images and testimonials whose authenticity cannot be verified.
Authorities are concerned that the way FITFORMA is marketed encourages self-medication, leading consumers to use it without professional supervision. This could expose users to side effects or health risks.
The Ministry reminded the public that products of this type must have an active health registration in Costa Rica before they can be legally sold as medicines, natural products, supplements, or foods. This process helps ensure both safety and accuracy of information provided to consumers. FITFORMA does not have registration under any applicable category and is therefore not authorized for sale in the country.
Officials warned that selling or distributing unregistered products puts consumers at risk because these items are outside regulatory oversight and lack guarantees regarding quality, effectiveness, or safety.
The Ministry cited General Health Law No. 5395, which prohibits the production, trade, and use of unregistered, adulterated, or counterfeit products. Individuals or companies involved in such activities may face sanctions.
Recommendations from the Ministry include stopping use of FITFORMA immediately and turning it in at the nearest Area Rectora office; halting distribution and sales; consulting a healthcare professional if symptoms arise after using this product; and reporting establishments suspected of promoting FITFORMA by contacting the Ministry via email or through local offices.
