A Costa Rican man identified as Vindas Céspedes, 51, was killed in Belize on March 27. According to Greater Belize Media, Vindas was the quality manager at Fyffes Banana Farm in that country.

Local media reports say the attack took place Thursday morning and involved a neighbor who allegedly stabbed Vindas several times. The victim’s position as quality manager is listed on his LinkedIn profile.

After the incident, Vindas was taken urgently to the Placencia Polyclinic but died at the scene. Police quickly detained a 47-year-old man from Maya Beach who reportedly lives nearby. He was taken to the Seine Bight police station while investigators work to clarify what happened, according to Greater Belize Media.

The motive for the attack remains unknown at this time.

Fyffes is an international importer and distributor of fruit, mainly bananas, pineapples, and melons. The company operates in Central America, South America, and other regions worldwide.

Authorities continue their investigation into the circumstances surrounding Vindas’s death.
