Costa Rican Red Cross teams are conducting a search operation at Moín beach in Limón after an adult man disappeared in the sea near the APM Terminals pier on Friday, January 2.

According to preliminary reports, the incident began when four minors had trouble getting out of the water while visiting the beach. In response, a man, who is the father of one of the children, entered the sea to help his son and the other minors. The children were able to reach safety.

Authorities confirmed that the man, aged between 35 and 40 years old, managed to save his son but was unable to return to shore himself and disappeared in the water. Witnesses said he was quickly swept away by strong currents.

Rescue workers from the Limón branch of the Costa Rican Red Cross started their search about 25 minutes after receiving the alert. The operation includes aquatic rescue specialists working together with local residents and using jet skis to cover more area.

As of now, there has been no sign of the missing person. Authorities have emphasized caution for those entering the ocean, especially in areas known for strong currents during this time of year.

Witnesses noted that strong currents made rescue efforts difficult. Authorities continue their search and have urged people to take extra care when swimming in similar conditions.
