The Ministry of Public Works and Transport announced on April 24 that demolition work on the toll station along the General Cañas highway will start Monday, April 27. The project is a preliminary step for expanding the San José-San Ramón road and follows the decommissioning of the toll station last September.

The demolition will take place nightly from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. over five days on National Route 1, Interamericana Norte. During these hours, all vehicle traffic heading from San José to Alajuela will be suspended at the Cervecería Costa Rica intersection, requiring drivers to detour through Río Segundo via National Route 3 until reaching Juan Santamaría International Airport.

Traffic in the opposite direction will not be affected, according to officials from the Roadway Conservation Management Division of the National Road Council overseeing this operation. Authorities said they are making this announcement in advance so that those in tourism and travelers with flights during those hours can plan accordingly.

Officials also stated that information about similar demolition work at the Bernardo Soto highway toll booth near Naranjo will be provided at a later date.

The project aims to minimize disruption by scheduling work overnight and providing early notice for affected sectors.
