The Cooperativa de Productores de Leche Dos Pinos marked its 78th anniversary, highlighting its continued role in supporting rural development, job creation, and community strength in Costa Rica. The cooperative is recognized as one of the most prominent in the country and has a significant presence across the region.
For over seven decades, Dos Pinos has operated under a model focused on fair and equitable wealth distribution. The cooperative’s producer members are considered the foundation of the organization, which aims to have a positive impact on both social and economic development throughout Costa Rica and neighboring areas.
“Our business model puts people at the center of our strategy, demonstrating that it is possible to grow with purpose and commitment. It is a form of growth that redistributes wealth, promotes decent employment, and fosters nutrition and collective well-being with a long-term vision,” said Marina Rodríguez, Director of Corporate Relations and Sustainability.
Dos Pinos collects more than 1.4 million liters of milk daily, maintaining its leadership in premium milk production from farm to consumer table. Over 1,300 associated production units—98% of which are small or medium-sized—use advanced practices to ensure fresh, safe milk with high nutritional value. Technical support provided by the cooperative helps promote animal welfare, productive efficiency, and environmental sustainability.
“One of the pillars of this excellence is automated milking—a technology that not only improves process hygiene but also reduces stress for animals, ensuring purer milk from extraction. This system reflects the Cooperative’s commitment to innovation and animal welfare,” Rodriguez stated.
Every liter collected undergoes strict quality controls in laboratories accredited under ISO 17025 standards and backed by FSSC 22000 international certification. This ensures compliance with top global standards.
Additionally, Dos Pinos’ Sustainable Farm Standard encourages good practices regarding animal welfare, environmental management, social responsibility, and economic efficiency at all stages of production.
In 2025, Dos Pinos achieved first place in Costa Rica’s national MERCO Talento ranking due to its culture centered on leadership development, well-being, inclusion, and overall employee experience.
“With more than 6,000 employees in Costa Rica and across the region, Dos Pinos guarantees the best experience while directly impacting community well-being wherever we operate. In this way we build a higher purpose based on values such as respect, excellence, commitment, integrity gratitude humility and solidarity,” Rodríguez added.
