The General Directorate of Road Education (DGEV) has announced the schedule and locations for this year’s theoretical driving courses designed for people with hearing disabilities. These courses are conducted entirely in Costa Rican Sign Language (LESCO).
A total of six courses will be offered at different locations: three in San José-Paso Ancho, and one each in Nicoya, Cartago, and Puntarenas. The DGEV has published a detailed schedule specifying the dates for each site.
Participants will attend five sessions. From Monday to Thursday, lessons are provided using the Driver’s Manual, and on Friday, an adapted exam is administered. Classes run from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.
The Department of Training and Capacity Building organizes these sessions with staff trained to meet the needs of participants with hearing disabilities. According to the announcement, “In these courses, people receive classes and take an exam adapted to their needs thanks to the efforts of the Department of Training and Capacity Building, which has trained personnel to provide this service.”
Attendance at all sessions is mandatory. To enroll, applicants must have active system credentials (username and password) and pay a fee of ¢5,000 at any authorized financial institution.
The DGEV recommends visiting a Road Education office for assistance obtaining credentials quickly if needed. It states: “To obtain credentials more quickly, it is recommended to go to a Road Education office where you will be given all the support you need in this process.”
Without valid credentials or proof of payment, registration cannot proceed.
Enrollment opens one month before each course starts. Interested individuals can register through https://servicios.educacionvial.go.cr/Formularios/MatriculaPruebaTeorica by selecting “Regular” under “People with Hearing Disabilities (deaf)” as indicated on the platform.
