An elderly man died after being struck by a vehicle in Santa Rosa de Pocosol on Sunday night, according to emergency authorities.

The incident took place at approximately 8:07 p.m. in the Barrio Las Rosas area. A Hyundai vehicle hit two pedestrians who were walking in the area for reasons that are still under investigation.

Francisco Pérez Ramírez, aged 75, was pronounced dead at the scene.

A second victim, a woman around 50 years old, suffered serious injuries as a result of the collision. Personnel from the Costa Rican Red Cross responded to the emergency and transported her in critical condition to a medical center for specialized care.

Preliminary information indicates that after hitting the pedestrians, the Hyundai also collided with a parked Ford Festiva. The force of the impact caused the parked car to be thrown about five meters off the road.

Agents from the Judicial Investigation Agency (OIJ) arrived at the scene to recover the body and begin investigations into how the accident occurred.
