José Saturnino Cardozo, the coach of Municipal Liberia, may lose striker Fernando Lesme, who joined the team at Cardozo’s request. Lesme, a Paraguayan forward whose player rights belong to Atlético Celaya in Mexico’s Liga de Expansión, has reportedly signed with Club Sport Herediano and is expected to join them in June.

Last week, coach José Giacone revealed that Lesme would move to Herediano after this season. Municipal Liberia’s management is aware of Lesme’s decision and appears willing to allow his departure since he will not continue with Cardozo’s project.

Sporting FC’s sporting director, José Miguel Cubero, confirmed ongoing talks with both Celaya and Liberia regarding a possible six-month loan for Lesme. “We are negotiating with Celaya and Liberia about the possibility that during these six months Lesme plays with us. We have been in conversations with the managements to find out if he can join the team because I understand there are other clubs interested,” Cubero told Radio Columbia.

Guatemalan media outlets have speculated about Lesme possibly joining Xelajú after his contract with Celaya ends. However, Municipal Liberia will decide whether the striker remains or leaves before then.

“The intention is that Fernando Lesme joins Sporting for only six months. We understand that he is already a Herediano player for the next season. We will wait to see what happens in the coming days,” added Cubero.

Herediano’s sporting director Gustavo Pérez stated that any potential transfer from Municipal Liberia to Sporting FC this season would be negotiated between those two clubs, without involvement from Herediano. While Pérez did not confirm Lesme’s signing, he acknowledged Herediano’s interest in acquiring the Paraguayan forward.
