Florida Ice & Farm Co. (FIFCO) has reported that its corporate volunteer program, Elegí Ayudar, surpassed 20,600 hours of volunteer work by November 2025. This figure brings the total accumulated hours since the program’s inception in 2009 to over 1,115,000.
The company’s initiatives have impacted more than 6,000 people this year through a range of activities such as educational programs, shelter support, reforestation efforts, and beach cleanups. A total of 2,486 volunteers—including employees, community members, consumers, and partners—participated in these projects across Costa Rica.
Among the outcomes for 2025 are the collection of 9,720 kilograms of waste from coastal areas and rivers; direct benefits to 6,190 people through social programs; planting of 2,080 trees for ecological restoration; and implementation of 300 pollinator plants in community gardens.
Projects took place in both urban and rural regions including Guanacaste, Limón, Puntarenas, Cartago, and the Central Valley. Notable actions included cleaning national parks like Carara and Braulio Carrillo; massive beach cleanups at locations such as Conchal and Tamarindo; environmental restoration via community gardens and nurseries; social support at children’s homes and shelters for elderly people; biodiversity monitoring activities; and specialized projects like classifying shells in the “De Vuelta a Casa” initiative.
Maria Pía Robles, FIFCO’s Director of Corporate Relations said: “For us at FIFCO, the Elegí Ayudar program is a tangible way to practice conscious citizenship and create well-being where it is most needed. We firmly believe that solidarity and sustainability go hand in hand, and this volunteer program allows our employees to experience it firsthand.”
Robles added: “Sustainability is not built only with large projects, but with thousands of constant actions that regenerate territories, care for people, and strengthen social cohesion. Elegí Ayudar is an example of what we can achieve when we unite energy, purpose, and community.”
The company stated that these volunteering efforts are directly linked to its sustainability goals set for 2027. FIFCO continues to expand its program by incorporating new methodologies and collaborating with local organizations.
