Publicist Giovanni Bulgarelli has joined the presidential campaign of Ana Virginia Calzada, candidate for the Partido Centro Democrático y Social, as creative director. His entry was marked by a new campaign advertisement strongly criticizing chavismo.
The video ad depicts a place referred to as a “narco-hell” and features imagery associated with President Rodrigo Chaves, José Miguel Villalobos—candidate for deputy from Pueblo Soberano (PPSO)—official legislator Pilar Cisneros, and PPSO presidential candidate Laura Fernández.
A spokesperson for Calzada’s campaign said that Bulgarelli joined in December and that this is the first official campaign spot. He also contributed to Calzada’s Christmas message.
At the end of the video, Ana Virginia Calzada states: “Volver a darle tu voto al chavismo es venderle el alma al Diablo.”
Official lawmaker Pilar Cisneros responded to the advertisement by saying: “La que le vendió el alma al Diablo fue ella, al aceptar una pensión por la cual nunca cotizó suficiente y ni siquiera siente remordimiento por eso.”
Bulgarelli previously served as creative director in José María Figueres’ 2022 campaign, where he helped produce the controversial “salto al vacío” video. He has also worked on other presidential campaigns, including those of Fabricio Alvarado in 2018 and Ottón Solís in 2006.
Giovanni Bulgarelli is the brother of Christian Bulgarelli, an audiovisual producer who worked for President Rodrigo Chaves’ administration at its start. Christian later testified that President Chaves asked him to give $32,000 from a communications contract funded by Banco Centroamericano de Integración Económica (BCIE) to former presidential adviser Federico “Choreco” Cruz.
