Grupo ICE has begun operating the first eight kilometers of lighting on Route 32 as part of its ongoing project to improve illumination and connectivity along this important roadway. The energy component of the project has reached 50% completion, while more than 2.5 kilometers of fiber optic cable have been installed from Central San Isidro in Heredia to the Zurquí tunnel.
The total investment for the project is estimated at ₡7.5 billion. The work aims to enhance road safety and digital connectivity, with special measures to protect local wildlife. These include anti-climbing devices and aerial crossings designed to safeguard animals living in Braulio Carrillo National Park.
Intermittent closures will take place during work on these 26 kilometers, and drivers are advised to take necessary precautions. The entire electrical network is being built with semi-insulated cable technology to reduce the risk of electrocution for animals.
