Grupo ICE has reported progress on several electricity and telecommunications projects in the province of Limón. The announcement was made during the celebration of the Día de la Persona Negra y la Cultura Afrocostarricense.
ICE, together with CNFL, is continuing work to illuminate Route 32. According to the company, this project has reached 50% completion. As part of these efforts, 2.5 kilometers of fiber optic cable have been installed from San Isidro de Heredia to the Zurquí tunnel. The work also includes measures for wildlife protection and road safety improvements.
Improvements to the electrical distribution network are reported at 85% progress. The section between Cairo and Carmen (9.4 kilometers) is finished, while the Florida–Planta Reventazón stretch (10.8 kilometers) stands at 70% completion. These upgrades benefit both families and businesses in the area.
ICE is constructing a total of 112.5 kilometers of new distribution lines with an investment of ₡3,200 million.
In collaboration with INDER, five communities in Limón now have electricity service for the first time. This joint investment totals ₡370 million and benefits approximately 650 people in areas such as La Asunción, Asentamiento Maná, El Cocal, Celina, Isla Imperio, Sardinas de Colorado, Caño Seco, and Mata de Banano.
In telecommunications, ICE has deployed 100 new kilometers of fiber optic cable throughout Limón province and maintains ten active sales points. A new radio base station extends coverage to Punta Uva in Puerto Viejo de Talamanca.
“These obras demuestran el compromiso de nuestras empresas con Limón, una provincia clave para la cultura y la identidad de Costa Rica. Trabajamos para que la energía y la conectividad sean motores de igualdad de oportunidades, seguridad y respeto ambiental,” said Marco Acuña, president of Grupo ICE.
