The Instituto Costarricense de Electricidad (ICE) has opened its first major electric vehicle charging station in Villa Bonita, Alajuela. The facility is the first of its kind in Central America, offering six fast chargers and additional amenities for users.
The new station features state-of-the-art fast chargers designed to reduce charging times. It also includes a café operated by Coopedota and internet connectivity through Kölbi services.
With this development, ICE now operates 43 fast chargers across Costa Rica. The institute plans to add six more in 2025 and at least ten more in 2026. These future stations are expected to be located in areas such as Liberia, Guápiles, Garabito, Palmar Norte, Ciudad Neilly, Puerto Viejo, Limón, and Pérez Zeledón. This expansion will further strengthen the country’s largest charging network.
