Each year on February 11, the International Day of Women and Girls in Science is observed to highlight and acknowledge the essential role women play in science and technology. The date also aims to encourage more girls and young women to participate in STEAM fields—science, technology, engineering, arts, and mathematics. The United Nations General Assembly established this observance in 2015.
Marie Curie, who won two Nobel Prizes in Physics and Chemistry, is quoted as saying: “Nothing in life is to be feared, it is only to be understood. Now is the time to understand more so that we may fear less.”
The Ministry of Public Education (MEP) has announced an update to enrollment ranges at all levels within the public education system. According to the ministry, this decision focuses on placing teachers at the center of educational policy with a goal of directly improving learning quality.
On Monday, an event was held at the Professional Development Institute’s videoconference rooms where MEP presented important details about the 2026 academic year. The new school year will begin under the motto: “School shapes us, writing drives us, and values guide us.”
A total of 16,221 students are expected to benefit from a service provided through inter-institutional coordination among MEP; MICITT (Ministry of Science, Innovation, Technology and Telecommunications); IMAS (Mixed Institute for Social Assistance); and SUTEL/FONA.

Additionally, each year sees observances such as International Day of Education recognizing education’s role in promoting peace and development.
Starting Thursday, February 5th, 2026, the Digital Regionalization Module (ReDi) will open for post-secondary scholarship applications. This new date replaces previous announcements. Applications are submitted online via https://mep.go.cr/becas-postsecundaria beginning at 7:00 a.m., with requirements available in document DVM-A-DPE-UB-0002-2026.pdf on MEP’s website.
The application period runs from January 19 through February 27.
