A week after the death of actor James Van Der Beek, new details have emerged about his final days. The American actor, known for his role as Dawson Leery in “Dawson’s Creek,” died at age 48 following a long battle with stage three colorectal cancer.

According to U.S. media reports, Van Der Beek and his wife, Kimberly Van Der Beek, renewed their wedding vows shortly before his passing. The couple held an intimate virtual ceremony with family and friends joining by video call.

“We decided two days in advance and our friends gave us new rings, filled our room with flowers and candles, and our vows were from the bed,” said Kimberly Van Der Beek in statements published by local media.

Van Der Beek revealed his cancer diagnosis in 2024 and withdrew from public life while undergoing treatment.

His death was confirmed by Kimberly on social media. “He faced his last days with courage, faith and grace. There is much to share about his wishes, his love for humanity and the sacredness of time. Those days will come,” she wrote. She also asked for privacy during this period of mourning: “We ask for peace and privacy as we grieve the loss.”
