John Cena, a prominent figure in professional wrestling, has officially retired from WWE after a 24-year career. His final match took place at Saturday Night’s Main Event, where he was defeated by Gunther via submission.

Cena began his WWE journey on June 27, 2002, debuting in SmackDown by answering Kurt Angle’s open challenge. Initially facing challenges, he gained momentum with his “Doctor of Thuganomics” persona and soon became the leading face of WWE for over ten years.

According to NBC Sports, Cena concluded his career as a 17-time world champion, the highest number in WWE history. He achieved this milestone at WrestleMania 41, surpassing Ric Flair’s previous record. Throughout his tenure, Cena held both the WWE Championship and World Heavyweight Championship multiple times.

In addition to his world titles, Cena won the United States Championship five times and held tag team championships on four occasions. He also claimed victory in the Royal Rumble twice (2008 and 2013) and secured the Money in the Bank briefcase in 2012. These accomplishments made him one of the most successful wrestlers in modern WWE history.

NBC Sports also noted that Cena participated in numerous main events at WrestleMania and was involved in memorable rivalries with other top wrestlers such as Randy Orton, Edge, Batista, The Rock, CM Punk, and AJ Styles. His physical strength and endurance established him as a role model for fans across generations.

During his retirement ceremony, Cena left his boots and wristbands in the ring—a traditional gesture symbolizing a wrestler’s departure from competition.

Outside wrestling, Cena built a parallel career in film and television and is recognized for his charitable work. NBC Sports reported that he granted more than 500 wishes through the Make-A-Wish Foundation—more than anyone else associated with the organization.

Cena’s retirement marks the end of an era for WWE. His slogan “Never Give Up” became synonymous with his public image and remains influential among fans. While no longer competing in wrestling matches, John Cena continues to be a well-known figure in entertainment.
