José Giacone, coach of Herediano, stated that he was not surprised by Alajuelense during the 1-1 draw between the two teams.

Giacone said he had thoroughly analyzed his opponents and anticipated the way they would score. “The truth is, no. In fact, they scored the goal just as I expected, but we had worked a lot to prevent Matarrita from crossing. Really, nothing surprised me,” Giacone explained.

When asked about his assessment of the draw, Giacone said: “Good feelings remain. It was a high-intensity match, well played. It was an even game; I feel we managed to be protagonists with the ball. We made mistakes and one became a goal. We could have won the match, but it didn’t happen. We did correct defensive work; we take a point and leave satisfied.”

Regarding possession of the ball, he commented: “If you see, we had a line of four, but when starting play it looked like a line of three. Then regarding ball possession, Elías had some discomfort and Rándall Leal is getting back into rhythm, but after them we did good possession work. La Liga pressed us, but both teams had their moments. Our squads are evenly matched.”

About Darryl Araya’s performance, Giacone noted: “Darryl, besides being a fullback with understanding of the game, is also offensive. He goes one-on-one and has skill; we let him push forward and he scored a great goal. We have very good fullbacks who are starting to contribute more in attack.”
