Josimar Méndez played a key role in Sporting FC’s 2-1 victory over Liga Deportiva Alajuelense, scoring both goals for his team in the first half. The match took place at the Morera Soto stadium, a venue where Méndez said he enjoys playing.
“La Liga is a great rival, they have a good pitch and I feel we play well at Morera. Thank God we got the result. Last week we played well but didn’t score. Thank God this time the goals came and we are starting to show ourselves,” Méndez stated.
The forward also discussed how the team is adapting to new coach Andrés Carevic, who recently joined Sporting FC after leaving Cartaginés. “The arrival of coach Carevic has been good for us; little by little we are getting his ideas. We are playing differently. I think we still need more time with him, but this long week will help us keep getting results.”
Méndez noted that scoring was important for both himself and the team: “I wasn’t scoring before, but thank God I scored against Alajuelense. I dedicate these goals to my family, my friends who always support me, and especially to my baby.”
He added that matches like these boost his confidence and determination: “One of my strengths is that I am a fighter; I never give up. This is how we will keep training and supporting the team in whatever my teammates need,” Méndez concluded.
