The main prize of the 2025 Gordo Navideño lottery, which was for ticket number 78 with series 714, was not sold despite being available online. As a result, no one won the ¢1.6 billion prize.

According to the Junta de Protección Social (JPS), funds from unsold prizes, such as this main prize, are allocated to support social welfare organizations that the institution regularly assists. These organizations include the Disability, Old Age and Death Regime of the Costa Rican Social Security Fund (CCSS), day centers and homes for older adults, the Costa Rican Red Cross, and programs aimed at vulnerable populations.

The JPS stated that these transfers will be made according to its financial schedules so that the money from the main prize fulfills its intended social purpose. This process is in line with Article 8 of the JPS Law.

Initially, JPS had announced that the winning ticket had been sold online. However, on Monday it clarified that the winning combination was not purchased by the close of sales, leaving the main prize “unsold.”

The second prize of ¢160 million went to ticket number 59 with series 052 and was sold through the JPS website. Each fraction awarded ¢4 million.

The third prize of ¢80 million went to ticket number 92 with series 244 and was distributed among buyers in San José, Alajuela, Cartago, Guanacaste, Puntarenas, and Limón.

The draw took place at the National Convention Center in Heredia on Sunday, December 14.
