Juan José Gutiérrez, Chairman of CMI Alimentos, has been recognized as the Distinguished Industrialist 2025 at the XX Industrial Congress organized by the Chamber of Industry of Guatemala. The award highlights his leadership in expanding CMI Alimentos across 15 countries and his role in transforming Pollo Campero into an international brand.
The event brought together over 90 speakers covering topics such as human talent, competitiveness, investment, business ethics, sustainability, energy, and strategic infrastructure. These discussions aimed to promote innovation and strengthen the industrial sector in Guatemala and the wider region.
During his acceptance speech, Juan José Gutiérrez Mayorga stated: “I thank you for this distinction and reiterate my commitment to continue with the legacy and family values that characterize CMI Corporación Multi Inversiones, promoting economic, social, and environmental development in all the countries where we are present.”
CMI Alimentos operates in several areas including wheat and corn milling, pasta and biscuit production, poultry and pork farming, processed meats, animal feed manufacturing for pets and livestock, restaurant chains such as Pollo Campero, and Hispanic refrigerated foods production in the United States. Since joining the family business in 1976 and later becoming President of Pollo Campero in 1982 when it had only 17 restaurants in Guatemala and El Salvador, Gutiérrez has overseen its growth to nearly 400 locations across Central America, Mexico, Ecuador, and the United States.
In addition to leading CMI Alimentos since 2018—after serving as Corporate President of CMI since 2011—he also holds positions as Chairman of Del Real Foods (USA), Vice Chairman at PRONACA (Ecuador), and Toledano (Panama). Internationally recognized for his strategic vision—having appeared on Newsweek USA’s cover as one of “Ten Big Thinkers for Big Business” in 2005 and on Forbes Global’s cover in 2024—Gutiérrez is noted for supporting sustainable development initiatives.
Beyond business leadership roles—including past presidencies at the Chamber of Industry of Guatemala (1993-1995), CACIF, and FEDEPRICAP—Gutiérrez presides over Fundación Juan Bautista Gutiérrez. The foundation focuses on education scholarships, entrepreneurship programs, malnutrition prevention efforts, and health promotion.
Currently led by third-generation family members—with Juan José Gutiérrez Mayorga heading CMI Alimentos and Felipe Bosch Gutiérrez chairing CMI Capital—the corporation continues investing in projects that foster sustainable growth throughout its operating regions.
