Shortly after, at 02:20 UTC, La Nación shared information about seismic activity in the country: “Un temblor se registró la noche de este lunes a 48 km al oeste de Santa Cruz, Guanacaste, con una profundidad de 11 km, según informó Ovsicori. https://t.co/wbSWsE7Iym” (January 20, 2026). The Observatorio Vulcanológico y Sismológico de Costa Rica (Ovsicori) is the national authority responsible for monitoring earthquakes and volcanic activity.
Minutes later at 02:21 UTC, La Nación posted about the impact of the earthquake during a live broadcast: “Presentadoras se llevaron gran susto durante programa en vivo por fuerte temblor: vea el momento https://t.co/m7jlHP4RZb” (January 20, 2026).
