La Nación, a prominent Costa Rican newspaper, reported on September 25, 2025, the death of Karen Olsen, former First Lady of Costa Rica and mother of ex-president José María Figueres. The publication also shared information about upcoming free cardiovascular screenings in Cartago and clarified details regarding tax payments following an ATV blackout.

In a tweet posted on September 25, 2025, La Nación announced: “Fallece Karen Olsen, ex primera dama de la República y madre del expresidente José María Figueres https://t.co/QnKtVwaLFg”.

Shortly after, La Nación informed readers: “Este viernes podrá recibir una valoración cardiovascular gratuita en Cartago https://t.co/shxTHWZ4mL” (September 25, 2025).

Later that evening, the newspaper addressed concerns related to tax administration by stating: “Apagón de ATV: Hacienda aclara qué pasará con el segundo pago parcial de renta https://t.co/eufkEkVFBD” (September 25, 2025).

Karen Olsen served as First Lady of Costa Rica and was recognized for her role in public life as well as being the mother of José María Figueres, who held the presidency from 1994 to 1998. The announcement follows previous coverage by La Nación on significant national events and public health initiatives. Free cardiovascular assessments are periodically offered in various regions to promote early detection and prevention of heart disease among Costa Ricans. Additionally, recent technical issues affecting the Tax Administration Virtual system (ATV) prompted clarification from the Ministry of Finance regarding deadlines for partial income tax payments.
