La Nación reported a series of updates on October 1, 2025, covering corporate, infrastructure, and sports developments in Costa Rica.

The news outlet announced the pending notification of a major business transaction: “Florida Ice and Farm Company (Fifco) alista la notificación de su millonaria venta a Heineken ante la Coprocom, en cumplimiento de la Ley N.° 9736.” (October 1, 2025). The notification to Coprocom, Costa Rica’s competition authority, is a legal requirement under Law No. 9736 for mergers and acquisitions in the country.

In another update, La Nación informed the public about upcoming utility disruptions: “Cortes de luz afectarán San Pedro y San Sebastián este 2 jueves: tome nota de los detalles” (October 1, 2025). Residents in San Pedro and San Sebastián were advised to prepare for scheduled power outages on Thursday.

On the sports front, La Nación highlighted an international fixture: “Liga Deportiva Alajuelense visita este miércoles 1.° de octubre a Pachuca, en la Copa de Campeones W de Concacaf.” (October 1, 2025). Liga Deportiva Alajuelense was set to play against Pachuca in the Concacaf W Champions Cup.

Florida Ice and Farm Company (Fifco) is one of Costa Rica’s largest beverage and food companies. The sale to Heineken marks a significant move in the region’s beverage industry landscape. The process requires oversight by Coprocom as mandated by local competition laws to ensure fair market practices.

Liga Deportiva Alajuelense is a prominent Costa Rican football club with a history of international participation. Their match against Pachuca forms part of an ongoing effort by Central American clubs to compete at higher levels within Concacaf tournaments.
