A journalist from La Nación reported on January 28, 2026, that a Repretel official seized the cellphone of a La Nación reporter during an interview with Laura Fernández. The incident was shared in two separate posts by La Nación’s official account.
In its first post at 06:10 UTC, La Nación stated: ” Funcionaria de Repretel arrebata celular a periodista de ‘La Nación’ cuando entrevistaba a Laura Fernández https://t.co/U8RpqguSzG”. A second post published moments later at 06:10 UTC reiterated the claim: ” Funcionaria de Repretel arrebata celular a periodista de ‘La Nación’ cuando entrevistaba a Laura Fernández https://t.co/ojzNe9vrAe”.
Later that morning, at 06:21 UTC, La Nación released information regarding recent polling results: ” Encuesta del CIEP: Partidos de Claudia Dobles y Juan Carlos Hidalgo crecen en intención de voto para diputados; Pueblo Soberano sigue a la cabeza https://t.co/DZRzmBRVJj”.
Repretel is one of Costa Rica’s leading television networks. Incidents involving journalists and media representatives have raised concerns about press freedom in the country in recent years. The CIEP poll referenced by La Nación tracks voter preferences ahead of legislative elections, with Pueblo Soberano maintaining its lead while parties associated with Claudia Dobles and Juan Carlos Hidalgo are reportedly gaining support.
