La Nación, a major Costa Rican news outlet, published several updates on February 12, 2026, regarding controversies involving the Minister of Communication and the sale of AION vehicles in Costa Rica.

The tweet refers to allegations that the Minister of Communication was absent from sessions related to the selection of the Pío Víquez award. According to a jury member cited by La Nación, the minister “acted irresponsibly and irregularly.”

A similar message was posted shortly after. Both posts highlight concerns about the conduct of the Minister during an important cultural selection process.

On another front, La Nación addressed ongoing disputes about vehicle sales in Costa Rica. In a tweet dated February 12, 2026, it stated: ” ¿Quién puede vender AION en Costa Rica? This message points to responses from a Chinese company concerning which entities are authorized to sell AION vehicles in Costa Rica—a topic that has fueled further debate.

The Pío Víquez award is one of Costa Rica’s most prestigious recognitions for journalistic excellence. It is granted annually by an official committee and holds significant value within national media circles. The controversy surrounding absenteeism in its selection process may impact public trust in both governmental transparency and cultural institutions.

AION is an electric vehicle brand owned by GAC Group (Guangzhou Automobile Group), a major Chinese automaker. Disputes over authorized sellers have emerged as more international carmakers enter Latin American markets amid growing demand for electric vehicles.
