La Nación, a major Costa Rican newspaper, reported on February 9, 2026, that former President Laura Chinchilla claimed her X account had been hacked. In a post published at 02:40 UTC, La Nación stated: ” Laura Chinchilla, expresidenta de Costa Rica, denuncia que su cuenta de X fue hackeada https://t.co/TnKE136wF5″. A similar message was shared again by the outlet at 02:52 UTC: ” Laura Chinchilla, expresidenta de Costa Rica, denuncia que su cuenta de X fue hackeada https://t.co/kURTn4VZcx”.

Later the same day, La Nación addressed concerns about artificial intelligence and its environmental impact. At 03:00 UTC, the newspaper posted: ” ¿Por qué la inteligencia artificial consume tanta agua y genera alertas globales? https://t.co/pNDAzvwSpr”.

Laura Chinchilla served as president of Costa Rica from 2010 to 2014. Cybersecurity incidents involving public figures have become increasingly common in recent years. The issue of water consumption by artificial intelligence has also gained attention globally due to the significant resources required for data center cooling and operation.
